The Robert Resnick Lecture

The Lecture honors Prof. Resnick, renown physics educator, Johns Hopkins alumnus (BA, 1943; PhD, 1949), and a dedicated friend of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The Lecturers are major contributors to physical sciences who are also noted for their exceptional skills in teaching and communicating the excitement of science to broad audiences.

Carl E. Wieman

Dr. Carl Wieman, our 2011 Resnick Lecturer, is the 2001 Nobel Laureate in Physics for discovery of Bose-Einstein condensation. He currently serves in the White House as the Associate Director for Science at the President’s Office of Science and Technology Policy. Here is some basic info on Wieman:

In addition to his seminal contributions to physics, Wieman is a leading expert on science education and the 2007 winner of the Oersted Medal of the American Association of Physics Teachers. His philosophy of science education is nicely encapsulated in influential Science articles:
